Lomellina is a territory rich in history, culture and uniqueness, which are strictly related to the beauty and fruitfulness of its land. Situated in a privileged position, Lomellina can be defined as the “Lombard Mesopotamia” since it is surrounded by three important rivers: Po, Sesia and Ticino.
Its territorial uniqueness and its history, the signs of which are still visible in the plethora of noble castles spread all over the territory, are promoted and valorized by the Ecomuseum of Lomellina’s landscape which preserves the collective memory of the local population, while planning the future development of the area.
The ultimate purpose of the Ecomuseum is based on the recovery and preservation of rural traditions and culture, along with the territorial development prospects of the area in order to enhance its touristic and cultural appeal.
Sustainable development and territorial promotion require a shared commitment from all the municipalities and associations advocating for the territory, but also from local populations who are not just a passive audience, but veritable protagonists in the construction of this project through their stories, pictures and other materials.
The Ecomuseum is a rich source of documents and information about Lomellina, readily available for those who are interested and constantly updated in order to be as representative of the territory’s reality as possible.
Lomellina’s most important resource is to be found in its rice fields, the presence of which is due to the abundance of water from the rivers surrounding the territory. Along with the heronries, the rice fields form Lomellina’s landscape and they have influenced the territory’s history and tradition, a precious resource that the Ecomuseum tries to protect and promote.
The Ecomuseum is made up by the people who dedicate their time and passion to it and we, Lomellina Advisor, are proud to be partners for its territorial promotion.
